Is working to welding business of your family during the day and then go to your second job at night. You've arrived years, working as a cashier at target. You have always said that if you are 40 years and have a career that requires you to wear a name tag, and to shoot only you!
Not that there's something wrong with working on Target wearing a name tag or the operation of the family business. These are all honest. It's just that after 20 years with your company, and with your education and expertise, had not expected exactly on the ramp up to your golden years, asking customers if they would like to save 10% on their purchase with the opening of a store credit card.
You've heard rumblings about the company. But as you know, the numbers were good. At least were good. Then the competition has taken and the owners decided that it was a good time to bow gracefully. We were hoping that they were not going to be one of the many main wage earners to get let go. But unfortunately, eri. Unemployment ran out. Posted literally hundreds of résumés and still nothing. Your spirits are down, you are frustrated (which is a euphemism) and also had to humble yourself to get help from a local food pantry.
You did it all online courses; you have tirelessly pounded the pavement and scoured the classified ads. You hit on all the online sources to jobs such as www.monster.com www.usajobs.com hotjobs.yahoo.com and about 800 other worksheets that you surf regularly. If one more person tells you that a door closes and opens a window or that good things come to those who wait, do you think you're going to puke.
You have a family counting on you; so now what? For starters, keep plugging along. Keep to keep. You know that a work is not going to fall from the sky, so you need to just accept that your task now is to find a job. It works and it is working harder than most in this task.
More importantly you need to keep a positive perspective. Yes that is easier said than done. But if you can't control the circumstances you can control your attitude towards it. You can either look at downsizing as an opportunity to do something different or learn something new; or you can view by agreeing that you have been dealt a bad hand of cards and now all you can do is play. You don't watch yourself as a victim. No good will come from that attitude.
You have not entered nor had the longevity that you made in your former career if not for your media and internal drive. You need to regain that strength. If you still have a pity party, it is time to get over it. If you sent that many resumes and exhausted what you believe to be all your cables and are still bitter and feel sorry for you, it's time to re-evaluate. If you have not already accepted a job that you're overqualified for and underpaid, then it is time you did.
Pride can be our greatest downfall. Working on a family business that she never wanted to, or working nights at the concession stand may not be what you envisioned for yourself. Look how temporary. View as a salary. Seen as an opportunity to network with people you would never had the opportunity to cross paths. Maybe your next customer might be an entrepreneur that you have tried to get an interview with.
As for people who give you cliché – I know they mean well. People who have not been a mile in the shoes do not understand. Do not know what to say. Memory sizing sometimes sucks, but it may be forcing you into a new opportunity that love really. Do the best.
