CAREER EDUCATION. Engineering work: Survive Offshore Outsourcing

The cost of cheap labor in Southeast Asia are like a siren call to most U.S. employers who seek to lower support costs and improve profits.
Increasingly common tendency towards manpower outsourcing to countries such as India, Malaysia and Pakistan means jobs are leaks of a part of the world where workers fresh out of college or technical school will work for pennies on the dollar compared to American workers. For American workers, it means that is increasing the bar for entry-level positions, or the same positions are disappearing completely from the map. What you can do to avoid losing to offshore outsourcing?
Don't become a target.
What to do if you find yourself facing unemployment due to outsourcing? Many would say that makes it indispensable, but nobody is ever really so valuable that they are essential? What makes someone indispensable in a society that has 1500 employees? A few things, but some key skills can give an advantage. Abilities such as bilingualism, key skills, rare skills or equipment with the software that is so avant-garde or so old that only few can manipulate ben .25 skills that will make you stand out in an ocean of other employees.
Move quickly up the scale.
Another way to deal with outsourcing is escapism. Outsourced jobs are not able to key positions in the first place. Therefore, the key is to move quickly out of the initial positions in locations that are less likely to be outsourced. Look around you. If you're in a society in which entry-level 50 to 100 other people doing the exact same tasks you're doing, I may very well be in a danger zone for your location in outsourcing. Make it your mission to get out of that huge fish fish barrel poorly qualified and in a position that effectively can only be done at home as soon as possible. Get a promotion, get more training or education or go for a position that is more specialized.
Go smaller.
Consider changing jobs for a company that is smaller or more niche-oriented. Small businesses generally do not entrust the work due to a decrease of cost effectiveness and often because they have a closer relationship with their customers. While offshore outsourcing can save dollars and improve stock prices often has adverse effects on relationships with customers. Small businesses cannot afford to lose customers because of poor customer service or language barriers and therefore are less likely to outsource offshore.
Go where the jobs are.
Displaced workers in the textile and clothing in Carolina and other southern States were left without work almost overnight in the 1990s when their employers moved operations in Central America or Asia. Those who do not have transferable skills or were willing to move were left floundering. Workers who have thrived were those who learned new skills that were required or who were willing to move to areas where their skills are needed.
Stay ahead of the field.
Work is outsourced is generally the dirty work that requires a workforce that is highly specialized in the most common tasks, work with the most common applications, or can manage the minimal communication coupled with the heavy work, repetitive type. There is always a demand for qualified professionals who can work easily with the latest technologies and more, that they are not afraid of taking risks and enjoy the challenge of development and innovation.
Offshore Outsourcing suddenly cease? Not a chance, until the American consumer continues to high-end technology demand for very low prices. The race to maintain market share, profits requires keeping labour costs cheaper and more convenient. Offshore Outsourcing is a solution to this problem. That it is for engineering and information technology, American workers should not be a part of the problem to begin pursuing education and training that will rule over competitors to work off-shore and brings them out of the barrel of fish type positions of low-end, low-paid support. America has always been the leader in innovation and development engineers who focus on those areas will always have a place in this economy.
